About Me

Cristina Writer and Blogger at Filling my Prayer Closet. Contributor and Social Media Manager for Real Housekeeping @fillpraycloset @realhousemagHi there,

My name is Cristina. I am a wife and mother of two young boys and a stepmother to 3 more. I work full time outside of the home and joined the Catholic Church on Easter Vigil (2012).

I share about my faith, writing, blogging and the occasional book review. There’s definitely something here for everyone and I love to keep things interesting. Always ready to help, I will share blogging and social media tips too, but if you’re ever lost, just check out the menu tabs at the top to get what you’re looking for.

I contribute articles to Real Housekeeping, an online magazine, and also manage their social media platforms.

If you’d like to know more, I’ll share. I’m a misfit. I’ll lay it all out there for ya. Still not enough? So, who does this closet belong to? and How we came to be (how I met, and married my husband) and finally, here’s why you’re welcome here no matter what!

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word”. (Luke 1:38) about sums me up.

    1. Hi there! I just decided to go all in because – well because why not? There are so many stances taken out here, we can ALWAYS use a new Catholic one. Nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by!

  1. My sister Annie mentioned your blog…first of all I LOVE ath novena and second I love meeting another Catholic blogger. look forward to following you:)

  2. Hi Cristina:

Thank you for a wonderful blog. We share some similarities, Catholic and parents of two growing boys (mine are 9 and 6, very fun ages!), although I am a different gender 🙂

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Nice to meet you, William. Thank you so much for stopping by. It’s always nice to know there are others like you – all on the same journey.

I appreciate your compliments on the “work” I am doing. I never know. I just wing it, mostly.

      See you soon,

  3. Hello from an aspirant of Lay Dominican from Indonesia! You’re right, we’re everywhere 😉
This is a great blog! I enjoy reading it! I like collecting blogs written by Catholic wives and mothers, they prepare me for my own vocation later, God willing 🙂 Keep contemplating and writing, all ye black pooches of the Lord!

    1. Welcome dear Sister!!! I love it that you’ve found me. Lay Dominicans – where it’s at for sure. Collect away – and share what you find here!
      God Bless!

  4. Cristina, I simply love how God works. I came across your blog Not Your Average Catholic via the ACWB at 5:00am this morning, while on the treadmill. After reading a few of your blogs, your conversion, your ministry and style, I would love to chat with you. I have been blogging since October, still trying to navigate my way. Really admire the look, the feel and your message. Evangelization in a way that is relatable really makes a difference. That is also my goal. I would imagine you have been able to reach many. Let me know if actually chatting on the phone is an option. Thank you, Peggy O’Flaherty http://www.creatingspaceinyourlife.com

    1. Hi Peggy!! Thank you for the kind words – and a treadmill? BLESS YOU for that! Let’s chat! I am all about it. Just let me know how best to reach you and I will. Maybe this will lead to Skype?! Dare I push us into the new age too quickly?!

  5. I have nominated you for the Versatile bloggers award! http://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/
You don’t have to accept but should you choose to this is what you need to do.
-Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
    – Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. ( I would
add, pick blogs or bloggers that are excellent!)
    – Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
    – Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

    Good Luck! God bless!

  6. That’s really cool. My husband is a bishop in the Holy Catholic Anglican Church. We’re kinda related. And congrats on becoming a lay Dominican postulant. Love the Catholic faith and we also honor Mary. A couple of years ago, we went to Walsingham England to the huge Marian shrine: Our lady of Walsingham! Loved it. Mary has always had a special spot in my heart. Great to connect.

    1. We are kinda related! I am so glad you hopped over, and then hopped here. Mary’s strength through humility and faith gets me through more than I can express. Super glad to connect!

      1. Cristina, I just released my book, Crooked Lines and yesterday it was #1 in the inspiration category! Yippee. So, today, to celebrate, I’m offering a free Kindle copy to readers willing to offer an Amazon review. The novel chronicles the lives of two people, one a young boy from India entering into the Catholic priesthood. I see you do book reviews on your site. And while I sought you out because of the “tater tot” mention on Twitter, I thought you might be interested in Crooked Lines. Let me know and I’ll gift you a Kindle copy.

    1. I haven’t published anything. I’ve just been blogging for a little over a year. I am working a novel. Outlining it anyway – and I am in the early stages of that. I thought I was going to write memoir, but I think I need more time. If you’d like to get a feel, maybe? Please have a look at the “My Favorites” widget, just beneath the recent posts (under all the Instagram jazz).
