REBLOG: The Very Sad Childfree Life

childrenno

You know I don’t reblog often. I think this is the second time. Interestingly, it’s about children as it was the first time. Must be a hot button issue for me.

I came upon this piece by Fr. Robert Barron and wanted to share it with all of you and perhaps get you to weigh in.

—–> The Very Sad Childfree Life. <—–

Do you have friends, acquaintances, family members who feel that children aren’t something in their future? If so, why? Of course, I am sensitive and understand that there are those who cannot have children (I can’t anymore) or choose a religious vocation. I am not trying to delve into a debate where assumptions are made that I have no feeling or grasp of those brothers and sisters undergoing the cross of barren life. We, as disciples are asked to be open to new life. That’s all. Open.

I, for one, feel that the scripture verse Fr. Barron ties in should be what we, as Catholics, and humans in general adhere to and try to live by, because it is good. Very, very good.

“And you, be fruitful and multiply, teem on the earth and multiply in it” (Gen. 9:7).

Have a Blessed and Fruitful weekend…

  1. I completely understand your position. I also made sure (but maybe I didn’t include all circumstances and for that I am sorry) to note:

I understand that there are those who cannot have children (I can’t anymore) or choose a religious vocation. I feel that “open” leaves the door open to whatever path God has for you. Far be it for me to judge or suggest that others do. I am merely of the “be open to life”. I am and can’t have children naturally because I (before I became Catholic) had a tubal ligation. What? Yes. I did that and regret it every single moment. I took birth control and after reading a book Extreme Makeover by Teresa Tomeo realized that I probably killed I don’t know how many babies that I could have had. Now this delves into the abortion issue but I wanted you to really sense that I am not, nor could ever, ever judge.

🙂 thank you for ALWAYS keepin it real.
    Xoxo
